Shining a light on outstanding jazz talent from the South of England, the two series invite audiences everywhere to find out more about the artists and enjoy their new music.

The 6-part podcast series, Jazz South Spotlight, explores the influences, inspirations and musical backgrounds of 6 bands selected and commissioned by Jazz South to each write a new piece of music in 2020 as a reimagining of their original live performance programme.

The first episode features internationally acclaimed ECM recording artist Iain Ballamy and his quartet IBQT. Following episodes present Fourth Page, Hexagonal, Kate Westbrook and the Granite Band, Sara Colman Band and We Are Leif.

Jazz South Radar Sessions presents weekly livestream gigs at 7pm filmed in music venues and other surprise locations in the South, showcasing new work from an exciting and diverse line-up of 10 jazz composers. Each broadcast features a double bill, alongside interviews with the artists.

The opening broadcast features new music from Josephine Davies, winner of the 2019 Parliamentary Jazz Awards ‘Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year’, and award-winning pianist Robert Mitchell who combines music and poetry in a tribute to the legendary US politician and civil rights leader John Lewis.
